DESCRIPTION:
This clear two part waterborne epoxy coating system is easy to mix. It applies easily over most substrates by brushing or rolling. 1500 dries quickly, usually tack free within 1 - 2 hours. The material has a long pot life (3 hours) which allows larger batches to be mixed. The material cleans up easily with soap and water from tools and hands.
APPLICATIONS:
1500 is intended primarily as a primer for other chemically resistant coatings applied over concrete. The material makes an excellent base coat for Jeffco 100% solids epoxy systems or for Jeffco 3000 polyurethane topcoat providing superior priming and sealing functions. 1500 may be used as a light duty concrete coating providing superior dust control and good appearance. Due to the unique water permeability of this system, 1500 is recommended for areas where hydrostatic pressure may be encountered. This feature allows 1500 to be used on fresh (7 day old) concrete where conventional epoxies are generally not acceptable. The material may find use in steel and wood coating areas additionally. May be used as a sealer in bar top applications to prevent out gassing of the substrate.
CONDITIONS TO AVOID:
Do not apply to concrete less than 7 days old.
Do not apply to concrete with curing or sealing membranes.
Do not apply to base concrete at a temperature less than 55°F.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
Surfaces must be structurally sound and free from contaminants such as dust, oil or dirt. Sand or sweep blasting, by other means of mechanically abrading or acid etching achieves best bond. All freestanding water must be removed.
General surface preparation and application procedures specified in ACI 503.1-4 should be followed.
MIXING:
Thorough and complete mixing is critical. A Jiffy mixer is recommended. First mix each component separately. Carefully proportion each component at the ratio of 4 parts A (resin) to 1 part B (hardener) by volume or, if using 5-gallon kits, pour all of Part B (hardener) into Part A (resin) and mix at 400-600 RPM for 3-5 minutes. No stripes or color variation should be visible in the mix. Be sure to use an up and down motion, scraping the sides and bottom of the mixing container. After mixing, wait 10-15 minutes before application to allow for "induction" of material. Mix no more material than may be applied in 3 hours.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: After mixing Parts A and B, allow 10-15 minutes "induction" time prior to use! DO NOT use liquid material beyond four hours from mixing time. Although the product appears unchanged, poor gloss and film properties will result if material is applied after the four-hour limit. Therefore, we recommend that the applicator mix only as much material as may be used within 3 hours for best results.
PRIMING:
When using 1500 as a primer, apply material at the rate of 200-250 sq. feet per gallon by brush or roller. If using 1500 as a primer coat for other epoxies, allow primer to cure overnight (8-10 hours) before applying other Jeffco 100% solids epoxies. When priming steel, prepare surface by sand blasting or other mechanical abrasion.
FLOOR COATINGS:
1500 is an excellent bonding, light duty, chemically resistant protective floor coating. It is easily applied by brush or roller. 1500 will not crater or blush, and dries to a high gloss. When using 1500 as stand alone coating, two coats should be applied. The first coat penetrates deeply into the concrete and typically covers 200-250 sq ft/gallon. A second coat at 250-300 sq ft/gallon should be applied for best results, allowing 8-10 hours between coats and an overnight cure of the final coat before returning the area to service.
TIPS FOR USE:
The mixed material may be thinned up to 10% with water to improve penetration and allow for use with conventional and airless spray equipment. Temperature and humidity conditions affect the cure and tack free times of this material. Warm, dry conditions speed the cure and cool, damp conditions will lengthen the cure time. For best results, each component should be stirred prior to mixing.
